One of the tenets of the Martial Arts is COURTESY.  Courtesy covers a lot of ground when it come to behavior… kindness, being polite, good manners and much more.  There are many benefits to learning common courtesy and this tenet should mainly be taught through day-to-day example.  If parents and teachers and those surrounding our children show courtesy and caring, then it will come naturally to most children who emulate behaviors of those they respect.

There are lots of advantages to learning the rules of common courtesy….

Showing courtesy is a great way to defuse a heated situation and come to conflict resolution quickly.  Being polite and calm, even when approached aggressively, can be of great benefit to both parties.  There’s no sense fighting – argument rarely resolves the issue at hand.

By being sensitive to other’s needs and desires and showing attention to those needs, everyone wins even when we miss the mark.  If someone is expecting something by a certain time or in a certain way that simply isn’t possible, ignoring the timeline or details never works out well.  If you address the situation at hand IN ADVANCE – showing courtesy to others’ and their expectations – many times a compromise can be meet easily. Problem solved.

Showing courtesy and an effort to be polite can bridge the gap in a variety of scenarios between people with varying backgrounds and views that might otherwise be an awkward moment.  If you approach situations with sensitivity and understanding, those that might have been defensive will ease up and differing opinions will find a common ground much more easily.

Overall in today’s world of high-stress, difficult financial times and rushed environments, politeness and courtesy has a tremendous role.  Time is money, and wasting it with argument is non-productive to say the least.  Courtesy can relieve some of that stress and it costs you nothing.  However, the payback you and those around you receive is priceless.

The Martial Arts enhances many facets of life – physical fitness, mental well-being and it provides core values for kids as they learn and grow.  Try 2 FREE WEEKS at the Boca Raton Karate & Kickboxing Academy.  Call today for your complimentary intro class appointment.  561-926-1846   www.brkka.com
