We learn a lot from the phone conversations we have with consumer/potential students who are phone-shopping and gathering information about Martial Arts Training.  One series of questions always asked is regarding price.  What does training cost?  What do I receive for that price?  Are you offering any promotional rates?

While we anticipate most conversations will touch on pricing, it always makes us pause when someone occasionally asks us … “why are your prices so much lower than the other studios/dojos I’ve called? —–  are you a serious martial arts dojo?”

Now, we don’t consider our studio to be the least expensive studio in town, but we know for a fact that we are far from the most expensive.  Of course the answer is an immediate “YES” – we are certainly serious about the martial arts.  The experience, skills and knowledge our instructors provide are superior to most.

But after the initial knee-jerk answer that defends our reputation, it is a learning experience to hear that high prices equate with quality training and lower (and what we consider to be more reasonable) prices equate with less.  It makes sense on some level, as many products often are more expensive that are of higher quality.  But in the martial arts, we at Boca Raton Karate & Kickboxing Academy practice a different philosophy.  We charge what we consider to be fair and reasonable, based on the economy and our market.  We try to offer the best VALUE – not the lowest price, though our prices are very competitive.

So when shopping for a martial arts studio, definitely ask for the price.  Many studios won’t give you pricing over the phone – we do… there’s nothing to hide.

Once you know the price, find out the value for what you are paying.  How many classes does that include, how long are the classes, what length of contract must you commit to, what other costs will be coming along the way, etc.  And definitely determine what you want to spend.  What is YOUR budget?  If you have a 5 year old who wants to try karate, what type of time and budget commitment are you willing to make?  Don’t let anyone talk you into more than you are comfortable with.  Only you know what’s right for you.

We feel that we offer the best VALUE as well as very good prices.  There are no hidden costs and many different commitment levels to choose from.  We try our best to accommodate most situations.

Ask about the instructor’s background and experience.  Who trained these instructors?  What is their martial arts lineage?  How long have they been both teaching as well as training?  Then make sure the philosophy of the dojo is in line with your and/or your family’s values.  Is this a training center for fighters or is this a family-oriented studio teaching self-defense and offering physical fitness?  How much personal attention will you receive?  What are the class sizes?  Are private lessons available?  Make sure your decision is based on ALL the information you need  – not just price alone.
