Homework doesn’t have to be stressful if you create the right environment … here are a few more tips to consider…

Suggestion 4:      Create boundaries that work for you and your child.  Again, be consistent and stick with it.  If your child realizes that no TV or video games are allowed until homework is complete, then the motivation to finish is greater.

Suggestion 5:       Support, but do not undermine.  Assisting with homework is one thing… doing it for your child is another.  It’s easy to get swept up in the moment and simply provide the answer.  It’s easier than the process of explaining, it’s faster and often, when your child is frustrated, it’s natural to want to ease their pain.  But doing it for them only undermines the learning process and it also sends the message to the child that they are not capable of learning.  Helping them find the answer shows them that they are capable and teaches them the process of learning.

Exercise is also a plus when it comes to helping with focus.  The Martial Arts provide a great platform to burn off energy, learn techniques for focus and self confidence and learn the valuable skills of self defense.
